The British Fashion Council has announced that Anna Wintour will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2014 British Fashion Awards. According to the press release on the British Fashion Awards website, the famed editor of American Vogue will be honoured for her “tremendous contributions to the fashion industry.”
After beginning her career in 1970 at Harpers & Queen magazine in London, Anna went on to work as Creative Director at American Vogue before returning to England to work as Editor in Chief of British Vogue. She returned to American Vogue in 1988 as Editor in Chief.
As reported on the BFA website, Wintour has made astounding charitable efforts, including Fashion’s Night Out, a worldwide event that was started during the economic downturn in 2009, in an attempt to promote the retail industry. What an incredible lady!
The British Fashion Awards will be help on December 1st at London Coliseum.
Once again, internationally famous (and fabulous!) supermodel Kate Moss will be featured on the cover of Vogue. The December issue of the magazine will have two different covers with the lovely Kate appearing on both. According to Vogue, the two covers show different sides of Kate- one being the glam model with Sixties-style makeup, while the other shows a more natural side with minimal makeup.
The magazine, which Kate partially edited, also features an article that gives insight into ‘Kate’s World.’ Vogue readers will be able to read about some of her favourite things, and see pictures of some of the men in her life!
We can’t wait to pick up a copy of the magazine and see a side of Kate we don’t often get to see!
Exciting news for fans of Vivienne Westwood! The fashion icon and “mother of punk” is releasing a self-titled biography. Together, renowned biographer Ian Kelly and Westwood herself provide insight into her life, career, and relationships.
The 73 year-old fashion designer and co-creator of punk is also well know for her passion for activism. Kelly has said, “Vivienne is much more than what you first see. She is passionately committed to human rights and to eco-politics, but as well as that I am keen to tell the truth about a huge-hearted, warm and witty individual, whose face and clothes are known the world over…”
This is the first authorized biography that follows Westwood’s life, and features commentary from several of her friends, some of whom reportedly include Pamela Anderson and Naomi Campbell.
She’s been creeping onto the scene for a while now, but thanks to Jeremy Scott’s fashion explosion on the Moschino catwalk, Barbie is now a style ICON.
That’s right, Milan Fashion Week couldn’t possibly have expected the plastic fantastic invasion, life-sized Barbie Dolls roller skated down the catwalk in a collection of ColourPop worthy bright, sequined outfits.
The collection boasted double denim two pieces, printed co-ords, metallic-gold trench coats… Not forgetting the biker jacket made o terry cloth.
Clearly Scott’s tribute to the plastic fantastic is no coincidence, as the end of this month brings the release of Barbie Lagerfeld, available to buy on Net-a-porter.com for £135 – When did our favourite lady get so expensive?!
I can’t decide whether I feel sorry for Kate Moss – fast approaching 40, the woman’s age has become the talking point for fashion and tabloid press – or whether I’m overwhelmed with jealousy – it’s just the level of curiosity about how she can possibly still look so good!
Either way, she’s getting older (as nature would have it), she still looks stunning (the bit where she seems to defy nature…) and she’s still got the party personality and same British charm (or not charm) that makes her seem like a real person (as opposed to the crazy famous celebrity supermodel that she is).
Kate Moss has been a familiar face since the 90s and definitely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The fact she’s modelling in Playboy this month, which appears to be some kind of big joint birthday bash (the magazine turns 60 the same month Kate celebrates her 40th), is both hilarious and hugely impressive. Yes she still looks good (better than probably all other 40 year old females out there), but we’re not as shocked as everyone else seems to be. Have a little faith people, and also a little sense… Supermodels should be expected to age better than the rest of us, and I think we’ll be trying to dress like her, look like her, and party like her for some time still. The more important question is which cover will she be on for her fiftieth. Any guesses..?
We’ve had an incredible year with the launch of www.snapfashion.co.uk and our app as well as winning several awards and appearing in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, The Guardian and more.
In all our wildest dreams we didn’t imagine that we would be going to swanky parties, fashion shows, visiting New York and would receive so many kind words from our peers, journalists and people we really admire.
And now, just before the close of an astounding 2012, we have appeared in The Sunday Times’ Style magazine and Grazia – a perfect Christmas gift!
Belinda Parmar, author of Little Miss Geek who also writes for Grazia, picked us as one of her top fashion apps to download for 2013. We’re in seriously good company (and we’ve downloaded a couple of the other apps featured) and super chuffed to be chosen *swoon* as one of the ‘10 hot stories’ too!
We also made the cut for The Sunday Times’ ‘What’s up for 2013’ feature in Style magazine and never dared to imagine that we might be mentioned in the same article as David Bowie, Google, South Park and ‘wantologists’ – you have to read the whole article! Our favourite quote from the piece is: “Snap Fashion will change the way we shop.” We certainly hope so…give it a go! x
While Chanel is known for its evolving classics and constant innovation, the fashion house has been super busy of late and has chalked up a trio of obsessions for us in the past week alone!
1) Those photos of Victoria Beckham at Chanel’s spiritual home, 31 Rue Cambon. Just how incredible does she look? VB joins Karl Lagerfeld for a super glam photo shoot for Elle France. Interestingly VB only wears Chanel jewellery, teamed with a Lanvin sweater, Eres undies and Giuseppe Zanotti Design skyscraper heels. Pas de pearls! She also wears a white Fendi shirt, Sergio Rossi stilettos and a skirt from her own collection to pose alone.
2) From Paris to Scotland, a secret location near Edinburgh will host Chanel’s always-fabulous Métiers d’Art show this December – let’s hope Karl et al wrap up warm! It’s amazing to think that the first Métiers d’Arts catwalk show only took place 9 years ago but since then it’s a key part of the annual fashion calendar and enables Chanel to show off the extravagant work of its 10 highly skilled artisan manufacturers. One might suppose that the show will have a Scottish theme (Karl does love a kilt) and Chanel has even safeguarded 200 jobs at Barrie Knitwear, which it has just acquired.
3) And a final note to say that if you live anywhere near Chelsea in London you HAVE to go to the Little Black Jacket exhibition. We ventured to the Saatchi Gallery on Sunday morning and had a wonderful time browsing the huge selection of stylish portraits and lusting after the world’s most versatile jacket. P.S. the gift shop is totally amazing for Christmas presents!
It’s easy to forget how young Kristen Stewart is. She seems to have been around forever with Twilight, her long-term relationship, mature way of handling the press, defined sense of style and now the whole ‘affair’ thing. And woah she looks sophisticated in this Vogue editorial (we do like it!).
Kristen has a knack for vamping it up in the red carpet, but I can’t wait to see her in ‘On the Road’ this Autumn where she will have to look much younger and more natural! Plus it’s one of my favourite ever books. Has there ever been a cooler movement than the Beats?
We haven’t caught up with all the October magazines yet but two of our favourites are Vogue Australia’s Lana Del Rey editorial and UK Glamour Magazine’s cover, which features Emma Watson. Both are dreamy with flowing fabric, dusty pastels and sultry blues. Which is your favourite?
