Top 5 studded fashion pieces: “Tell me about it, stud”

All fashion folk know that the fetish trend has been huge this autumn and winter, but I have seen relatively few people clad in PVC heel-less boots and bone-crunching corsets (thank goodness!) but leather skirts (as expertly modelled by Ashley Tisdale + Miranda Kerr) are a simple way to rock the look. However, my favourite way to add a hint-of-fetish to an outfit is studded accessories.

Of course the ultimate studded accessories hail from Hermes, but we’ve found some gems on the high street of late and River Island is obsessed with spiky shoes – v Sam Edelman-esque. Studded accessories are great for toughening up party frocks and killer spiky shoes are always a winner when teamed with black skinny jeans.

We love cake, Versace and fruit (in no particular order) so it’s no surprise that we’re going crazy for H&M’s designer cruise collection.

Put the 19^th of January in your diary now and expect more Versace for H&M madness, but it’s worth it for this fabulously fruity collection. I’m going to start saving now.

Crocodiles rock : Micro trend to snap up

OMG new trend alert!

And it’s one that is right up Snap Fashion’s street…CROCODILES!

No we’re not talking crocodile handbags (exotic skins = boo!) or those spongy shoe things but crocodile prints. A couple of years back Christopher Kane had us snapping up scary crocodile dresses at Topshop and now another high fashion/high street collaboration has got us going crocodile crazy…we’re talking about  Versace for H&M of course.

I can’t wait for my crocodile pleated skirt to arrive *squee* after today’s shopping trauma – I love the mix of palms and crocs and there’s a matching men’s shirt too.

Versace for H&M: launch day chaos!

We knew it was going to be crazy and we weren’t wrong! Personally I love pretty minimalist styles with the occasional colour pop or print but was a little seduced by the Versace for H&M glamour – and the quality of the products.

I really wanted the studded plain-ish black silk t-shirt and pleated skirt – also silk. Both cost just £40, which I think is great value.

But with half an hour to go until internet kick-off, the website was down or incredibly busy. I finally got in at around 5 past nine, got the t-shirt in the shopping basket *squee*, put in my deats and then there was a technical error – so annoying!  However, I have just managed to check-out (perseverance pays off at last) and have even bagged a Christmas present.

Judging by Twitter a lot of people had similar experiences, which was a bit of a shame but apparently Oxford St and Regent St were just as crazy! There were police watching the queues on Regent Street and someone humorously tweeted: “Omg did you see how the men ran to and destroyed the whole of the Versace men’s collection in Westfield H&M?”

Versace for H&M: ‘Real women’ controversy rumours

If you read our blog regularly (and you really should!) you’ll know that we’re developing technology to help women dress for their body shape and feel fantastic, so naturally we’re a tad disappointed when designers are against using ‘real women’ to model their clothes – after all, it’s ‘real women’ that buy them!

Rant over, New York Daily News [via The Daily Mail] has reported that Donatella Versace cancelled a shoot for her Versace for H&M collection (landing tomorrow) as the normal sized women lined up for the shoot did not fit her branding.

While it might be easy to go a little crazy over this, we wouldn’t rule out there being more to the story than size issues as shoots are shelved all the time.

The story goes that the designer didn’t approve two of the normal ‘models’ (US size zero to six so by no means big!) for the collection and an H&M PR had warned the newspaper that a ‘real woman’ shoot would probably not go-ahead.

If this is true, it would seem to be a bit of a mis-match as the whole aim of H&M’s designer collaborations is to make high fashion available to all and like any high street shops that means in a variety of sizes.

With rumours that Tom Ford is on the cards for an H&M collaboration, hopefully we’ll see more designers using ‘real women’ as models in the future.

Not a day goes by when we don’t hear some sort of excitement/hype about Versace’s collection for H&M and last night the stars were out in force at the official launch in New York.

Many of the celebs were wearing clothes from the new collection (perks eh?), with Emma Roberts and Nicky Minaj wearing daring trousers and matching tops, while Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Alba, Selma Blair and Chloe Moretz donned cute dresses. Helena Christensen and Sofia Coppola looked amazing in a simple figure-hugging black dress from the collection and Blake Lively kept her outfit monochrome- although we’re not sure if it’s Versace – it’s not H&M!

H&M debuts The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo collection

Not content with exciting us with the Versace for H&M collection hitting the shops next month, the high street chain has taken inspiration from best-selling novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to give us a grungy collection.

Novel character Lizabeth Salander definitely counts as as an unlikely fashion icon but come December we’re sure we’ll be channelling her look with the help of Hennies.

Back to Black- a far cry for the Versace collection!

Of course the book is due to be released as a film (again!) before Christmas starring Rooney Mara and the H&M collection is created by costume designer Trish Summerville. There are lots of leather and pleather jackets, hoodies and distressed jeans with a touch of grunge and gothic as you’d expect.

As a major grunge fan, I’m quite excited by this collection (although I wouldn’t wear everything at the same time Anna dello Russo style and look too like Lizabeth!

Of course we’ve already seen Banana Republic’s successful Mad Men collection but is there something slightly naff about dressing as a book/TV character? Or will this spawn a new fashion craze?

Harry Potter capes? Jane Austen bonnets or JD Salinger baseball caps? Alice in Wonderland dresses or Wizard of Oz slippers? (We should probably get in touch with H&M;)
