  1. World’s most expensive backpack? Olsens x Damian Hirst

We thought that Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s $39,000 alligator skin backpack that sold out at Barneys a couple of months back was pretty pricey, but the classy twins have outdone themselves by launching an even more luxe version…with a little help from artist Damien Hirst.

The Row has partnered with the controversial artist to bring us a $55,000 backpack with classic Hirst details. And the materials used might raise a few eyebrows too as the black patent backpacks are made from Nile crocodiles.

There are only 12 made, including a plain version, polka dot pattern and bag with pill details- my personal favourite. They are being sold by One Eye and there are only 12 made, signed by the artist. Maybe that’s a bargain as ‘Lullaby, the seasons Spring,’ Hirst’s iconic pill artwork sold for almost £10 million in 2002.

Apparently Hirst will give a portion of the profits to UNICEF – does that make up for the crocodile?!

  4. The Row x Superga

You know by now that I’m a little obsessed with Superga’s so imagine my joy at the news that two of my favourite people – Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have pimped some plimsols!

The Row for Superga plimsolls are what you might expect- beautifully made from luxe materials, super stylish and yes, expensive.  The cashmere plimsolls are a hefty £250 and the linen versions £190. Are you sold?

  5. NYFW: Monochromes and neutral

Some trends never die. Smart monochrome looks, buttery neutral coloured leathers and plush camel will live forever. They still looked awesome on the NYFW catwalks and came in so many varying forms.

  7. Best bespoke bags

What is better than having an IT bag on your arm?

Answer: Having monogrammed IT arm candy!

Despite a prolonged recession/global financial crisis, super handbags are selling like hot cakes. The Olsen Twins recently sold out of an alligator backpack by The Row costing a whopping $39,000. So clearly there’s demand for super expensive arm candy that your wealthy friend absolutely cannot own – and this is where monogrammed bags come into play.

Anya Hindmarch has just launched a new bespoke service on her website and customers can have initials, names and even drawings embossed and printed on leather and fabric.

Anya says: “I’d label my children if I could. [...] These pieces are not of a season, but of a moment in your life and are designed to have your name on them rather than mine.”

In fact bespoke goods have been on sale in Anya’s Knightsbridge-based shop since 2009 where consumers could order monogrammed bags and silk purses embroidered with hand-written love letters and sketches.

The new service continues to let customers play designer with exclusive goods from their computer and they can select the amount of pockets, add names in a selection of fonts etc and as long as you get your design sorted by 26 November, it will be ready for Christmas. Prices start at £75 for a bespoke book mark and stretch into the thousands – approximately £12,500 for a personalised small Ebury tote made in navy crocodile.

    Some inspiration from Anya's site

Elsewhere, Louis Vuitton’s Mon Monogram service lets customers choose up to three colours (from a total of 18) with a stripe and/or initials hand painted onto the Neverfull, Speedy or Keepall bags. Sadly you can’t bring in a much beloved Vuitton bag and have it pimped with your personal details (yet!)

    LV LoVe them!

Details: Which colour combo would you choose?

The exception to the rules is the set of luggage that the brand created for (superb) film, The Darjeeling Limited. There is a scene where the three brothers, who are travelling across India, throw the surplus suitcases off a train…and they are so beautiful I nearly cried!

    The luggage of my dreams!

Meanwhile for those who aren’t a huge fan of colour, you can have your initials embossed in gold only onto a Fendi Classico bag – well, onto a leather luggage tag that hangs off it. The plus point is that the service is free (even if the pretty bag isn’t!)

    Classico in gold

For those on a slightly tighter budget, Longchamp’s Le Pliage totes can be customised. Customers can choose the length of the handles, colour combo and then add initials or text.

So cute (and attainable with saving!)

And at the seriously high end of the market, a Goyard has to be the ultimate monogrammed bag. The monogram colours available are incredibly similar to Vuitton’s Mon Monogram service but Goyard goes the extra mile as the company offers hand-painted crests (anything in fact)…for a considerable price! This is family heirloom stuff!

    SO chic!

The Hilton sisters have all the luck!

  8. Will Mary-Kate Olsen’s kimono maxi dress catch on?

We’ve just been marvelling at mini Olsen Lizzie’s style but now big sister Mary-Kate is giving her a run for her money – in the unusual style stakes at least!

The Olsens were out and about in Paris to launch The Row’s new handbag range, but it was Mary-Kate’s unusual tracksuit meets kimono-style maxi dress that grabbed the headlines!

    Love it or loathe it?

  9. Elizabeth Olsen – new style icon?

We all know that Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are two seriously stylish sisters who have their own label – The Row, but now it seems that little sister Elizabeth is stepping into the sartorial spotlight.

Elizabeth Olsen talked about her role in forthcoming film Martha Marcy May Marlene to Nylon magazine wearing a mixture of classic clothes with a quirky twist – a little like her famous sisters’ style but slightly younger looking.

We love her take on the Navojo trend and note she joins the celebrity floppy hat fan club!
