  1. The Great Gatsby + Prada= great costumes

As soon as we heard who would be starring in The Great Gastsby film directed by Baz Luhrmann we got excited about the costumes. Then we heard that Cartier and Miuccia Prada were involved and got VERY excited. Now we’ve seen Miuccia’s sketches and can’t wait to get to the cinema!

While we’ll have to wait until May to see the film but in the mean time, check out these sketches and the awesome trailer. There are 40 dresses in the film (we might play dress bingo) all of which were adapted from past Prada and Miu Miu colections all with an Art Deco twist – obviously.

The film’s costume designer, (who is also Baz’s wife) told The Telegraph: “Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past.”

The stylish duo worked together to create costumes with “the European flair that was emerging amongst the aristocratic East Coast crowds in the 1920s” to capture the “dichotomy between those who aspired to the privileged, Ivy League look of wealthy Long Island and those who were aspiring to European glamour, sophistication and decadence.” Oh yeah.

We love Carey Mulligan (Daisy’s) gold, crystal-encrusted ball gown in particular. And Baz was sure there would be show-stopping dresses as he’s worked with Miuccia before – remember the super stylish Romeo & Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio in 1996? The pair have also made a few short films together for the Met’s pedigree ‘Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations’ exhibition.

Are you as excited as us about the fothcoming film?

    My favourite!

The 1920′s produced the most elegant cocktail dresses. Discuss.

Not my kinda thing but I have sketching envy!

  2. MFW: Top 10 round-up

Milan Fashion week is always ‘the glamorous one’ and this season saw its fair share of red carpet worthy dresses as well as Prada’s Japanese-inspired collection…which definitely means the oriental style clothing we say on the catwalk in London is definitely going to be BIG this Spring!

  3. Top 5: Prada + geometric print trousers

Miuccia Prada is responsible for so many wearable trends that have translated brilliantly onto the high street in recent years. And this coming season is no exception as shoppers clamour to get their hands on flattering cropped trousers with a distinctive geometric print.

A natural successor to the pyjama pant and the art deco trend, the head-to-toe print look appeared fairly daunting on the catwalk, but do not be deceived, we reckon it would be your new best friend for the office.

While daring fashionistas can rock the whole match-matchy printed shebang, consider a printed geometric trouser with a tailored white skirt and plain jacket to let the trousers do the talking! Luckily you’re spoilt for choice and by matching some work wear staples with a new pair of trousers, could get a distinctly on-trend new season look for less than £50.

Here are our Top 5 favourites. Happy shopping!

  4. Trend mash-up: Prada + socks + sandals

They are two of the defining footwear trends this season but for £3.50 you can mix them up. We know you love Prada’s incredible hot rod shoes of this season with their Grease Lightening racy flame detail (so do the celebs) but they are v pricey.

    HOTrod

You’ve probably also seen the big sock + sandal craze -note we mean heeled sandal and not on men!  Prada, Burberry Prorsum and Moschino all took the trend to the catwalks, which is now being embraced by brave trendsetters.

  6. Scarlett Johansson for Vogue: May cover

Who doesn’t love Scarlett Johansson’s retro style? Legendary photographer Mario Testino has captured Scarlett in sumptuous Art Deco surroundings for Vogue magazine at a time when we are all gaga for Gucci and The Great Gastby’s 1920s glamour. The only disappointment is the predictable sugary pastel cover…why?!

We will also take this opportunity to reminisce over a previous amazing Vogue Paris shoot. Ooh la la!

One of my favourite images in recent years I think!

What is more 1920s glam than a dangerous spotty kitty?!

    Sexy in Prada

Why the sugary pastels after such a strong editorial? Are you a fan?

Such a sexy shoot from the past. Scarlett is a great hair chameleon

    And again!

  7. Prada for Olympic gold?

We’ve already seen Stella McCartney’s Olympics kit for Team GB but the competition is already hotting up as Prada is dressing the Italian team and here’s a sketch of the sailing outfit via Fashion Foie Gras.

Apparently the Prada brand will be all over the boats too, not to mention the rest of the Olympic kit, which will be pretty stylish if the sketch is anything to go by. We’re now waiting to see Ralph Lauren’s designs for Team USA…and to see if any other designers will enter the competition – Chanel for France anyone?
