  1. Slipper wish list

The other day I was in the supermarket and a rather mad old man noted that we were wearing the same shoes. He was in ‘real’ slippers and I had a studded pair on. It seems that today’s trend for wearing slipper-style shoes (the NEW ballet pump) is particularly popular with OAPs. If you fancy taking sartorial tips from the over sixties, (or at least Hugh Hefner but hold the dressing gown) here are our favourite slipper pumps. (Just don’t wear them on frosty days your feet get chilly and they’re slippery suckers!)

Paisley velvet slippers, £35 from Next

    Super beautiful Miu Miu slippers

Glittery studs from Kurt Geiger…and you might scoop a sales bargain!

Pretty leopard print slippers from Zara. £35

Ticking the trend boxes. Tartan with a twist, £25 at River Island

  2. Chloe Sevigny for Miu Miu

Miu Miu is one of our favourite labels at Snap Fashion and we also love Chloe Sevigny’s strong personal style. So I’m a little puzzled about why I don’t like this campaign more. It is strong and thoughtful but for some reason I’m not 100% sold.

Maybe it’s the clumpy shoes that bring back bag nineties memories, or the extreme-ish haircut, or the clashing prints, but I think it’s because these clothes are really challenging. I can’t see myself wearing them or them fitting into my wardrobe.  Do you like this advert?

  3. Style etymology: the cowgirl

While the original cowgirls roamed the dusty plains of America’s mid-west, now-a-days the term is shorthand for daisy duke shorts, a certain kind of denim shirt that is springing up all over the high street again this Spring (lasso one now) and well, a particular outdoorsy but sexy casual style.

    Cowgirls captured by Evelyn-Cameron

Believe it or not there is a National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in the US which prove that women did do ranch work, rode horses really well and toiled alongside men- you go girls. In fact, Wyoming gave women the vote back in 1869 and photographer Evelyn Cameron captured women’s contributions on ranches. According to our Googlings, ‘cowgirls’ got their name thanks to the Wild West Shows where they showed off their riding and rope whirling skills and this catapulted women such as Annie Oakley to fame.

    Annie Oakley (apparently!)

History lesson almost done- cue the fashion…

By 1900 cowgirls favoured practical skirts with splits to allow them to ride horses without scandalizing (or over exciting) cowboys by borrowing their clothes or flashing their bloomers. The look evolved thanks to rodeo girls in the 1920s and then the skirts morphed into sexier versions in Hollywood with starched white skirts and artfully worn denim.

    Gail Davis looking chirpy!

We’ve read that modern cowgirls still wear jeans, close-fitting shirts, boots, hats and when needed, chaps and gloves…although doubtfully in the same way as Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera.

We’ve rounded up some iconic fashion/cowgirl looks but are still slightly bemused as to how practical and casual clothes favored by hard-working girls turned into such sexualised outfits worn on so many hen nights! Answers on a postcard.

  4. Top 5: t-bar shoe totty

YSL is crazy for t-bar heels this season and we’re seeing bright tributes all over the high street. I adore the block-heel neon versions in Zara but there are also delicate stiletto shapes out there too. The only rule is that modern shapes and platform heights are hot, rather than decidedly retro versions of yester-year. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t team your t-bars with a classic tea dress or shift – a cute and playful work wear look.

I adore these neon t-bar heels from Zara and would team them with a blue scarf-print skirt and white shirt, or classic polka-dot print dress

I love this fierce metal detailing on the YSL Candide paneled suede pumps £735 from Net-a-Porter

Another Zara entry for high heel pros only. The stark stiletto shape is incredibly sexy (but tricky to walk in!) £59.99

The right kinda retro: Topshop's Whamm espadrille leather wedges £65

For disco divas: Miu Miu Glitter and crystal-embellished suede sandals £650

  5. PFW: metallics live on

Wallets rejoice – metallics are still hot for AW12 so keep hold of all your sparkly favourites to re-style later this year.

Yes you’ve guessed it, there were sequins at Elie Saab but mirrored panels at Miu Miu and shards of crystal at Chanel as well as plenty of shiny silk, metallic brocade, delicate foiled finishes and smooth fabrics with a subtle metallic weave in precious metal and mineral-inspired shades. The message? Shiny is good in different textures and it’s for the day-time too.

    Sophisticated foil at Chanel

Lots of bronze and rose gold at Gaultier

Metallics and mirrors at Miu Miu

    My favourite Chanel dress

Sexy in silver at Paco Rabanne

Cute metallic trousers at Vanessa Bruno

    Shiny brocade at Louis Vuitton

Sequins for evening at Elie Saab

  6. PFW: tapestry + wallpaper

We’re trying to think of when tapestry was last cool – maybe in the 1970s thanks to Carole King? But this coming winter we’ll be going crazy for it and old wallpaper-esque prints with metallic touches, brocade and intricate beaded and lacy detailing. You have been warned. Time to redecorate!

    Amazing craftmanship from Balmain

    My favourite look -Carven

    Tapestry-tastic at Valentino

Medieval influences meets punk - yeah, Vivienne Westwood of course

    Loud prints at Kenzo

Retro wallpaper prints at Louis Vuitton

    Metallics at Miu Miu
