Milan Fashion week is always ‘the glamorous one’ and this season saw its fair share of red carpet worthy dresses as well as Prada’s Japanese-inspired collection…which definitely means the oriental style clothing we say on the catwalk in London is definitely going to be BIG this Spring!
Ooh and Jil Sander’s back with minimalist masterpieces.
Cara Delevingne works the runway for Dsquared2
Gucci goes glam and colourful!
Versace goes glitzy (who would have thought?!)
Roberto Cavalli sticks to silky sexiness
Dolce & Gabbana reworks Sicilian folkiness
Moschino does the sixties – which were big (again!) at LFW
Prada mixies punk, sixties and Japan for an incredble collection
We’ve waxed lyrical about pyjama-style trousers, but how about silky pyjama-style shorts, almost like fashionable boxer shorts for girls? They have the advantage over their trouser counterparts of showing off pins and ankles. Take your lead from D&G and seek out scarf-print shorts or make like Marc by Marc Jacobs and go all nautical. If you like to mix and match your trends, there are also lots of tie dye surfy silk shorts out there.
Inspiration! D&G SS12
A little scarf-like! Zara shorts £19.99
I’m in love with these shorts by Marc by Marc Jacobs £56 from The Outnet – be quick!
Lou Dillon is decked out completely in Marni x H&M (wish I’d queued up now!)
Amazing silk shorts at Reiss and just a little bit surfy
Would you take style tips from a 12 year old? Grazia think so and have a feature coming up on Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper in Mad Men – yes the little girl!
Kiernan certainly has a mature sense of style and a shoe collection most twenty/thirty-somethings would die for. We’re not sure about the Versace dress and Louboutin combo but we like the youthful Marni pic.
According to the interview Ralph Lauren is a favourite of Kiernan’s, while Grace Kelly and Zooey Deschanel are her style icons.
‘My style is constantly changing. At the moment I look preppy, but with an edge…I am a huge fashion fan. It’s a really cool way to express yourself…I’m always excited to get to set and see what I’m wearing,’ she told the magazine.
Minimalism…in Italy? Of course! There were plenty of beautiful simple cuts around but of course all eyes were on Raf Simon’s final collection for Jil Sander. And it was predictably good!
Packed with pretty pastels, soft shapes and luxe fabrics, we loved the loose coats, bustier dresses in cashmere, metallic leather and even PVC and full billowing skirts and trousers – romantic and feminine but not in a frilly way! And there are still those gorgeous pointy ankle-strapped shoes.
Oh Raf, please move to Dior!
Cannot express how much I want this Jil Sander coat!
OMG H&M has done it again – the Marni collection is stunning!
You all know how amazing Marni is and like us have probably swooned over the Sophia Coppola advert – so without further ado here are the top 10 pieces we are lusting over.
This is soooo mine! Silk top £39.99
Just the right amount of bling. £24.99
Snap's founder + CTO is crazy about this skirt £39.99
Amazing necklace £24.99
Incredible wool cardigan £49.99
Most useful belt ever? Only £9.99
Super cute silk shorts £34.99
SO Marni - sandals £69.99
Yes this if for men but I'd like to wear it with skinny jeans and a white shirt poking out
We were completely over-excited about the Marni/H&M collaboration the second it was announced. But now there are pictures and a video directed by Sofia Coppola we are incandescent with anticipation…if that’s even possible!
We’re counting down the days until the collection hits the shops (grrr queuing) on 3 March.
Marni + H&M = match made in heaven So you know the news- Marni is the next designer brand to collaborate with H&M…and there’s still a cruise collection in come in February from Versace – fruit and cake prints a-plenty = yum!
We are super excited about both. So put 8th of March in the diary as Marni Mania day.
Founder and Creative Director of Marni, Consuelo Castiglioni will be completely involved and said: “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favourite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements.”
Official Marni for H&M image - hopefully a hint of what's to come!
We’re promised that the collection will include strong prints and bold colour intended to be worn together and layered to embrace a clashing aesthetic. There will be pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trous, knits and silks as well as jewellery, bags and shoes…yay!
Check out the video.
We hope that the H&M collaboration looks a little like Marni’s SS12 collection of floral and 70s look pieces. Here are a few Marni classics that we hope will inspire the H&M collection!
The Look: Big block colour, simple A-line dresses with nude petticoats and big bold 1970s floral prints. Retro cropped jackets and leather pencil skirts were key shapes too.
Colour-wise everything was vibrant and graphic with 70s chocolate and yellow hues as well as plenty of graphic navy circles and stripes to break up the florals.
Best Bit: Perspex flowers on miniskirts and amazing floral coat.
