It’s that time of year when we’re almost done with Christmas shopping and are looking forward to the holidays, as well as thinking about all the things we’ve seen and done in 2011.

Luckily for us, The Telegraph has collected together it’s20 favourite fashion advertising campaign images of the year so we thought we’d bring you our top 3. Do you agree?

How many competitions and arguments have Blair and Serena had over 100 episodes of Gossip Girl?! Well, actresses Blake Lively and Leighton Meester had a bit of a red carpet frock off themselves last night.

Blake dared to bare in a rather revealing Marchesa fringed sheer number with strategically placed embroidery, while Leighton opted for a pure white Balmain dress with super sparkly Jimmy Choos.

Who won the battle of the dresses?!

P.S. Blair’s big wedding will mark the 100^th episode – we can’t wait!

Snap Fashion’s founder, Jenny, lives in her cape, whilst I am definitely on team Poncho.

However, I might be swayed to embrace this Autumn’s hottest coat-alternative after seeing Leighton Meester’s deliciously Autumnal ensemble on the set of Gossip Girl…check out our recent post of series 5 best looks! Kim Kardashian is also a big cape fan.

Is anyone else super happy to have Gossip Girl back on our screens? Here at Snap Fashion HQ we’re die-hard fans and while we’re loving the series on air at the moment, we can’t help looking ahead and spotting what Blair and Serena (obviously Leighton Meester and Blake Lively are wearing filming the next series).

Kim Kardashian: Capes and carousels!

Kim Kardashian has scored a trend hat-trick. How may you ask? Take a look.

1)     We recently wrote about the fashion face-off at the Snap Fashion office: capes vs ponchos. It seems like Kim has joined Team Cape (and bonus points for Heritage trend lovers, it’s in check) and she proves you don’t have to look like Sherlock Holmes! Leighton Meester, Fearne Cotton & Rachel Bilson are all fans btw.

2)     Take every opportunity to ride carousels – if it’s good enough for Kate Moss and Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week we’ll give it a go and Kim Kardashian has jumped on this circular bandwagon.

3)     Kim also rocks a 70s floppy hat. We’re not sure about over-the-knee boots with such a short dress but the suede also adds another retro touch to the outfit. P.S. Olivia Palermo and Rachel Zoe also love a floppy hat!

Cape vs Poncho – whose team are you on?

Here in the Snap Fashion office we’re having a debate – capes or ponchos.  Which is your choice for keeping cosy this Autumn?

TEAM CAPE – Jenny, Founder of Snap

For some reason I was drawn to capes this year, with their warm yet stylish charm.  And it seems that I’m not alone.  Many a celebrity has been spotted sporting a stylish cape.  Leighton Meester (aka Blair Wardorf) brings the cape to the Upper East Side, proving that it’s not just for super heros, but for super cute winter wear that can take you right through to Spring.

If you’ve got the same budget at Blair Wardorf we’ve found a beautiful cape on Net-A-Porter.  Made of leather with shearling trim and lining, it’s bang on trend for this AW season.  It’s designed by Zero+MariaCornejo and is £2,635 – so worth it!

This cape is our lust-have

If you’re like us and don’t quite have that budget, no need to fear.  I myself have just invested in a cape (to the despair of our poncho-loving editor) for a bargainous £35 from Tesco.  It’s super-soft and has expensive looking duffle detailing.  You have to move fast though – they’re selling like hotcakes and most sizes have already sold out on the website.

Another celebrity fan of the cape is Rachel Bilson.  I’ve always admired her style, from her days in The OC to generally looking casual yet chic in LA, and she definitely knows how to rock the common cape.  This one is allegedly from Topshop, but if you’re looking for one this season, Dorothy Perkins has some fantastic styles too at affordable prices.

Our final celebrity cape champion is Fearne Cotton.  The humble cape features no less than 4 times in her new collection for Very.  We love this Sherlock-Holmes style number.

So show your allegiance to Team Cape – embrace the cold weather, grab a soft yet stylish winter warmer and show those poncho followers what you’re made of.

TEAM PONCHO – Sarah, editor of Snap

Yawn! When I think of capes I think Sherlock Holmes or Superman – neither of them bad but both playing by the rules, whereas the poncho/blanket wrap coat is for free sprits- those who tear up the rulebook, look cool but keep cosy. Think 60s festival wear, Kate Moss and in true Gossip Girl style, Serena instead of prim-and-proper Blair.

Unlike the cape, the open poncho is incredibly versatile -handy for negotiating the perils of British weather – and can be belted up to make it super cosy or just thrown on for sunnier days  – loads more options for styling fun!

It’s also a really easy way of tapping into the Navajo trend and looks amazing with skinny jeans or shorts. It can be dressed down with ethnic-style jewellery and a tasselled bag for a festival-friendly look or cinched in at the waist and paired with smart leather heeled boots for a more polished style that still screams – it’s the weekend and I want to chill out and have fun!

One of our favourite Gossip Girl moments (and it’s hard to choose) was Blair and Serena’s brief summer in Paris – oh the couture, the macaroons, Le Louvre and the prince – cheesy magic!

And now Leighton Meester’s been back in the French capital to take in a few shows at Paris Fashion Week wearing an outfit so good it wouldn’t look out of place in Gossip Girl.

Proving white dresses are not just for weddings, Rachel Zoe also rocked a white maxi dress and both girls chose black accessories. We love it!

Leighton Meester is no stranger to wearing looks hot off the catwalk as she plays fashionista Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, but this is the first time that this stunning Marios Schwab seashore dress has been spotted on the red carpet.

The dress, which has a subtle sea life print is from Schwab’s 2012 Resort collection. Leighton goes one step further by teaming the dress with beautiful Burberry Prorsum Resort tribal heels….not fair!

Much lower-key than Blair Waldorf’s latest lemony ensemble, we love this look on Leighton, who was attending an HTC mobile product launch in NYC.
