Top 10: Met Ball dresses
We know everyone else has had their say but here are our top 10 dresses – woot!

Thank goodness for the Elle Style Awards. We’ve been struggling all week to find amazing red carpet looks for you, despite the Grammys and Baftas both coming around. But finally we have some styles that are original and fun as well as super glamourous.
Plenty of people have gone gaga for Alexa Chung’s trouser suit but (I’m being super brave here) despite loving Alexa and Stella McCartney, who designed the suit, it kind of left me cold…too sensible perhaps?
So instead we bring you the sheer and seductive versus the playful print. Whose team are you on?

We’re weren’t a-bloggin’ this time last year so SS12 was our first official fashion week- and there was plenty of drama. Here are our top 5 fashion moments (we’ll be waxing lyrical about our favourite looks post NYE festivities!)
1-Florence Welch performs in a shell for Chanel
The clothes, celeb-packed frow, clam-shell clutches, giant shell and hottest musician Florence Welch, huge set…we just love Chanel!
2-Lyndey Wixon takes a tumble for Versace
Versace has had a big year and one of 2011’s best-known models, Lyndsey Wixon had a real catwalk moment after falling over in some extremely high underwater-themed Versace platforms. We love how she got up, smiled and punched the air.
3-Lana Del Ray x Christopher Kane
We are crazy for Lana Del Rey (her look and magical music) and we first heard it at Christopher Kane’s show, where the combination of clothes, super long runway and choice of track made for a memorable fashion moment.
4-Kate Moss rides Louis Vuitton’s merry-go-round
Impressive sets were the order of the day for some SS12 fashion shows (Chanel and Louis Vuitton did it best) and we loved Vuitton’s magical merry-go-round and Kate Moss was the icing on the cake.
5-The Balenciaga bench collapse
Maybe it’s my childish sense of humour but the Balenciaga bench collapse at PFW made me giggle. While the Art Deco-inspired collection was amazing, it was like an extra fashion show seeing what Anna Wintour et all were wearing.
January in magazine world tends to have a dieting theme (boo!) and it’s all about aspirations, resolutions etc so we’re not surprised to see Rosie Huntington-Whiteley gracing the front cover of Harper’s Bazaar.
She looks amazing but has anyone seen her smile of late?!
Bucking the ‘body’ trend, Vogue has put stunning Florence Welch on its front cover (and we definitely need to see the feature on multitasking bags!) The Chloe dress is beautiful and matches Florence’s boho-inspired style but we’d love to see her in something younger and edgier for a change.
Which do you prefer?
News flash! It’s cold outside. We’re so used to seeing scantily-clad celebs running from taxis to parties dressed in nothing but a Herve Leger bandage dress…but this weekend we’ve spotted Kate Moss + Alexa wrapped up warm and now the return of some serious statement coats!
Florence Welch has joined the 1970s floppy hat brigade and matching Mulberry burgundy bag. But the main focus of her outfit has to be the long, elegant vintage navy coat over an equally vintage looking paisley-ish patterned dress.
The look is definitely unique to Florence but we love the Mary Poppins-style velvet detailing on the coat and Florence pulls it off fabulously well.
We were also thrilled to see that Olivia Wilde has joined Team Cape. Olivia’s is a 1960s-look number tat complements her retro hairstyle and winged eyeliner. She completes the look with vintage-appropriate Chelsea boots and a chic Gucci handbag.
Both girls prove wrapping up can be deliciously chic but which is your favourite look?
We don’t know about you but we’re starting to get award ceremony fatigue. We love a bit of red carpet action but there are only so many galleries you can face working your way through so we’ve done the leg work for you. Here is a mini round-up of three of the biggest awards dos in the past week…part 2 + 3 coming up!
Florence Welch and Lily Cole were our best-dressed girls at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards.
And the winners were….
Stay tuned for Cosmo…
Few can dispute the impact Kate Middleton has had on the nation’s wardrobes. Dressing like a lady is in again, brides are after Sarah Burton look-a-like dresses and sales of ‘nude’ leg-lengthening court shoes have soared.
And now she’s topped Harper’s Bazaar’s best-dressed British woman list, despite Dame Vivienne Westwood branding her style as ‘ordinary’. We love the way Kate mixes high fashion and statement jewellery (well if you do have access to the crown jewels…) with high street pieces from the likes of Topshop and Zara, which sell out of her picks almost immediately!
The magazine’s editor, Lucy Yeomans, who headed up the judging panel, reportedly said the Duchess won as her “incredible style evolution has gripped us all.”
Kate beat off fierce competition to top the list of the nation’s 20 most influentially attired (apparently). We’re not sure how much the ‘influential’ bit counts or whether it’s a best-dressed list really.
Florence Welch came second (see Chanel show for one of the many reasons why) and actress Andrea Riseborough third.
Kate Moss came 4th and Harper’s reportedly said: “She has a Tesco attitude about fashion – she makes accessible to everyone” well maybe, but her recent collaboration with Fred is anything but high street!
Tilda Swinton took 5th, Kiera Knightley 6th (see that Mary Katrantzou dress at Cannes) Stella McCartney 7th (for her own personal style rather than her own label- we think) sneaker-lover Phoebe Philo in 8th, Alexa Chung in 9th and Livia Firth in 10th- possibly because of how well she rocked that Stella McCartney Illusion dress!
Here’s the run-down from 11 to 20: Natalie Massanet, Natalia Vodianova, Samantha Cameron, Emma Watson, Yasmin Le Bon, Thandie Newton, Charlotte Dellal, Kristen Scott Thomas, Josephine De La Baume and Cara Delevigne.
Who’s be in your top 10 most influential current British style icons?
P.S. Just noticed that Pippa Middleton didn’t make the list!
Pics from Look.
As we near the end of Paris Fashion Week (and indeed New York, London and Milan) there are some shows that you know you’ll remember in years to come…and this SS12 Chanel show is one of them!
The theme: Underwater (like Versace) but with iridescent tweed coats, translucent layering, metallic booties, shell-shaped bags, frothy hemlines like waves breaking on a beach (might be getting swept up in the romance of it all…) faux pearl piercings, wet-look cloth and all with that beautiful Chanel elegance and simplicity. If I could have everything in one collection this. would. be. it!
Florence Welch provided a live soundtrack - v Ariel from The Little Mermaid!
We won’t wax lyrical but have carefully (beach) combed Twitter for so many pics. Enjoy x
Pics pulled from various fashion eds and frow people in the heat of the moment- happy to credit (but we lost track- too excited – sorry!) P.S. We’re so so jealous of the make-up goodie bags!
