  1. Top 5: Paris Couture Week dresses

Of course there are some crazy creations shown off at Paris Couture Week but here are five dresses that we would happily wear to the Oscars…if we were nominated and had squillions of pounds, obviously. We would probably go a little easier on the make-up in Chanel’s case though – not that it didn’t look incredible on the runway!

Valentino. I’m thinking Queen’s garden party

Giambattista Valli – for a cool art exhibition opening?

Dior – one for a wedding?

Chanel. I’m feeling a super glam cocktail party/ red carpet occasion

Elie Saab for wearing in an exotic summery city or a modelling shoot on the beach

  2. Top 5: Couture dresses

Oh how we deliberated long and hard about this selection. Couture week is the stuff of fairytales but not so practical for us mere mortals where ‘social seasons’ are something we have learnt about in Gossip Girl.

This couture week was a mixture of gothic glamour and dark glittery textures as well as pretty dusky pinks, cute pom poms (we’re looking at you Chanel) as that symmetrical detailing that has been around for a few seasons. Oh and of course Raf Simon’s exciting and hugely successful debut for Dior.

So beautiful, subtle and elegant – must be Elie Saab

The Armani Prive show was so strong but love this dark, sexy look with tiny shots of colour thanks to clever sequins

Raf Simons makes his mark on Dior. The detailing and craftmanship is incredible and the sihouette classic Dior with Raf’s modern twist. I’d love to wear this to a party.

Valentino gets dark and mysterious in a signature way

Perhaps one of my favourite dresses ever. Chanel, bien sur.

  3. Dark + dangerous vs. wildly romantic: Couture Week

Paris Couture Week is traditionally a time for designers to show off some crazy creations and this year was no exception- although some designs were highly wearable and tied in with the mainstream catwalk trends – Chanel anyone?

However, we do love how different the shows can be- from elegant 1950s and sunshine yellows earlier this week to giant red dresses, romantic florals and 1920s references and super-scary fetishised, leather collections- all in the space of a few days. Which side are you on…dark and mysterious or breezy and romantic?

    Just peachy: Elie Saab couture

    Oscar's outfit tip!

White Valentino dresses with sheer and floral detailing. Heaven.

Reminds me of charming 1920s wallpaper (a good thing) and love the shape

    Romance supersized at Giambattista Valli

Dark and dangeous at Givenchy (anyone else kinda reminded of Hannibal Lecter?!)

    Scary piercings

    Fetish-detail jewellery and zips

More naughty than nice? Leather and rubber a staple at Jean Paul Gaultier's show.
