  1. Stop the press! Kate Moss wears AW13/14 Saint Laurent

Hedi Slimane’s latest collection for Saint Laurent has received mixed reviews – already! But there’s no doubt that his groupie grunge/girl-with-the-band styled collection is perfect for Kate Moss…the ultimate 1990s icon with cool credentials.

So just one day after the Saint Laurent body stockings (I think that is the correct term) hit the catwalk, Kate is wearing one at Hotel Shangri-La for the CR Fashion Book Issue 2…and wearing it well…although the back of this ensemble is risqué.

Check back later for Paris’ latest take on the groupie grunge trend.

    Hot off the catwalk!

  2. Girls on Film: MTV House of Style goes online

Back in the late eighties and early nineties the internet was a rarity/luxury and here in the UK, a lot of people didn’t have satellite so were either addicted to MTV or just envied their friends. We fall into the second camp and so are thrilled that iconic fashion show MTV House of Style is now online for us to catch up on (decades later). We like playing spot the super model.

    Super Squee!

  3. Girls on Film: Melissa Joan Hart as Clarissa

Oh the nineties- Dr Marten boots, leggings, clashing prints, tie dye, Keith Haring, denim jackets, printed jeans and big pendant necklaces…on wait, that’s kinda like ‘now’ too. So perhaps it is time to resurrect a former fashion hero of ours –Melissa Joan Hart as Clarissa Darling (you know the tune if you’re a child/teen of the nineties!)

A word of caution – some of these looks are probably a little too much but aside from Kate Moss and various cool indie chicks, I think Clarissa is one of the decade’s (less appreciated) icons.

  4. Topshop Unique: Walk like an Egyptian

Topshop Unique’s SS12 catwalk show was just that –unique. We don’t remember seeing any other collections so heavily influenced by ancient Egypt, Kaith Haring, 1990s gangata chic or Elizabeth Taylor…although it did tap into the larger sports luxe trend – one of the defining looks of this season.

I love the sports luxe look and it’s so consumer friendly – bright pieces, easy and flattering cuts which look so fresh for Spring but for those who like their looks more challenging and their prints more urban than Mary Katrantzou’s delicate digital florals for example, this is right up your street.

We note there is less gold in the high street drop than on the catwalk but here are our top 5 favourite pieces from the collection, which has just hit the shops. Where else could you get catwalk looks from just £50? Thank you Topshop!

  5. Top 3 wedge trainers

Much like the crop top trend (thanks a bunch Topshop et al) I have mixed feelings about wedge trainers, as being a 1990s teen I have been there, read the book and got the (colour changing) t-shirt. Having said that, there is room in my life for these Isabel Marant numbers…they do remind me slightly of those self-lacing ones from Back to the Future.

The wedged trainer fall into Spring’s ‘sports luxe’ trend and would make a pair of skinny jeans current, while Elle also recommends pairing them with a leather skirt or denim mini dress for the warmer weather.

Surely this look will be a huge hit with the hipsters in Shoreditch, near Snap Fashion HQ. We’ll keep you posted!

Guilty pleasure? Isabel Marant wedge trainers £430

Cheap + chic (but not a v Spring colour) wedge trainers from Aldo. £80

Slightly more elegant wedged trainers £248 from See by Chloe
