  1. Saint Laurent’s musical muses

When Saint Laurent sent his grungy girls down the catwalk in plaid, slobby cardis and spotty tights, there was no mistaking the teen spirit borrowed from Nirvana. And now who is one of the faces of Saint Laurent’s Pre Fall collection but Mrs Nirvana, Courtney Love.

Over the years Courtney’s style has been interesting and I’ve probably channelled her late husband’s style more than hers…I am sitting here typing in a Breton jumper with red sunglasses not far away…but I really like these images- especially the big furry coat and tiara combo.

    Courtney = SL chic

    The old days

Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, Ariel Pink and Marilyn Manson have also got their pose on for the campaign. There was lots of talk about Hedi Slimane’s treatment of the YSL heritage (the dropping of the ‘Yves’ was perhaps a sign that Hedi planned on putting a rather big finger print of his own on the brand,) and then the grunge look surfaced. I really like the collection but it doesn’t necessary scream Yves Saint Laurent to me. Perhaps that’s ok.

In fact YSL has always been linked with musicians and fused fashion with rock and roll. After all, the ‘real’ Yves dressed Mick and Bianca for the St Tropez Jagger wedding  and Hedi has designed stage wear (whilst working at YSL in the 90s) for David Bowie and The Libertines.

He photographed Courtney in her natural New York habitat and she is reportedly wearing Hedi’s polka dot scarf and classic YSL tailoring, as well as an evening dress from the new collection. The furry coat is from the main AW13 collection…in case you were wondering.

Both Manson and Pink are wearing the Saint Laurent L01 biker jacket, as favoured by the one-and-only Keith Richards…there’s that Stones link again.

Do you look the campaign or do you want something glossier from the French fashion house?

  2. English National Ballet x Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood has rebranded the English National Ballet with a set of posters where ballerinas wear her specially designed clothes.

We spotted the posters on the Tube this morning and they are incredible and completely successful in the campaign’s aim of blending tradition and modernity.

ENB artistic director Tamara Rojo told Vogue: “I am thrilled that Vivienne Westwood has agreed to let us use her clothes in our first campaign. It’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with someone of such stature. Her designs capture the creativity and ambition of our dancers who, in turn, add drama and movement to the clothes.”

It obviously worked on me as I’ve signed up for a taster ballet class with the English National Ballet in a couple of weeks…now how to get my hands on a Vivienne Westwood ballet dress?!

  3. Georgia May Jagger + Hudson Jeans’ Art Deco collection

Hello super cool video, amazing jeans and gorgeous model. Georgia May Jagger stars in a kooky video to celebrate Hudson jeans’ 10th birthday and there’s an amazing Art Deco inspired collection to mark the occasion.

There are sexy skinnies influenced by 1930s diamonds, Fabarge eggs and yes wallpaper (you’ll be wearing a lot of that this Autumn!) and you can get your glamorous paws on them from Snap Fashion affiliate, My-Wardrobe.com.

In case you’re hooked on the slightly psychedelic video, the music is by Au revoir Simone (only the coolest New York electro band will do, natch.)

  4. Chanel’s Little Black Jacket Exhibition will land in London!

Get excited! Following massive success in Tokyo, New York, Taipei and Hong Kong, Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibition is coming to London!

We’ve read our fair share of articles over the years claiming that Chanel jacket is a wardrobe essential (if you can afford one) and it’s one of those classic lust-have pieces. But recently we’ve been rather taken with the work of various bloggers and fashion journalists who have religiously worn the Chanel jacket and styled it in different ways to prove its versatility and timelessness. If you wore it every day for the next decade it could prove to be affordable on a buy-per-wear calculation…(that’s what we’re telling ourselves).

Of course the project began as a super stylish coffee table book of various models, actors, designers and musos wearing the jacket their way. When the idea is from Karl Lagerfeld and Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld you know it’s a good one and even better when Karl takes all 113 photos himself.

You can get your fashionable mitts on the book this Autumn and visit the exhibition from 12-28 October at The Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Road, London, SW3 4RY. Admission is free so there’s no excuse – put it in your diary!

For real Chanel anoraks (or should that be LBJs) there will also be some beautiful window displays in Chanel’s Bond Street, Sloane Square and Brompton Cross boutiques. Get more here including an amazing video about the making of the jacket.

  5. Kate Moss for Rag & Bone

There are so many hot fashion stores opening in London right now- Juicy Couture, Chanel’s pop-up make-up wonderland, Victoria’s Secret, Rag and Bone and a new shiny Burbery to come. So of course super cool Rag & Bone wanted a super cool London IT girl and who better than Kate Moss?

I love the baroque detail (so next season) with a rock and roll Mark Bolan-esque edge and all the leather of course. If anyone is in doubt as to why Kate Moss remains a super model, she OWNS this campaign with her effortless sense of style, but can glam it up just as convincingly for campaigns like Salvatore Ferragamo’s sultry campaign (also with baroque print detailing in a very different way.)

  6. Lanvin’s 82 year-old cover star

Fashion legend Alber Elbaz has taken the brave decision  to cast ‘real people’ in the AW12 campaign for Lanvin and the first pic to be seen includes 82 year-old Jacquie ‘Tajah’ Murdock rocking a perky peplum.

He told reportedly fashion bible WWD: “I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes. It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.”

Do you like it? We’re intrigued to see the other pics.

  7. Battle of the high street hotties: Lana del Rey + Rihanna

Brace yourself for stellar adverts for our fav highsteet stores. Land Del Rey is the new face of H&M, while Rihanna is designing a hot clothing collection for River Island.

Lana will film a commercial for H&M and record a song called Blue Velvet especially for the campaign, which so far shoes her in a fluffy pink sweater. Apparently the collection will be super feminine with a focus on knitwear and tweed…two of AW12’s key looks. The brand’s creative director reportedly told WWD that ‘the mood is very LA noir’ … yay!

Meanwhile, after a lot of speculation, Rihanna is officially designing her own capsule collection for River Island…but you’ll have to wait until Spring to get your hands on it. This is possibly a good thing as we bet some of the outfits will be slightly revealing and edgy…not handy in winter with goose pimples.

Rihanna told the press: “I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”

  8. Mila Kunis for Dior

Mila Kunis has been the face of Christian Dior handbags for a couple of seasons now and we loved the adverts…but this season is a whole new type of WOW – perhaps even more amazing than her latest Elle cover.

If you are like us and love old school Hollywood glamour and Parisian chic, you will swoon over this campaign which has an incredible fashion pedigree – with photographer Mario Sorrenti and styling by French Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld.
